Keep this boundary.
A phone number cannot recreate someone else’s deleted chats.
This guide identifies possible existing copies. It cannot promise restoration of a permanently deleted conversation.
Missing is a symptom, not a verdict.
| Situation | Where to check | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Archived conversation | Your own archived chats. | Hidden from the inbox is different from deleted. |
| History missing on a new device | The same account and its earlier storage setup. | A device transition is not proof of deletion. |
| Previously saved information | Copies or downloads already under your control. | A copy is not necessarily a restored chat inside the app. |
| Deleted, with no known copy | Official guidance for the actual account state. | No recovery is established by a number or a simulated feed. |
Look for a copy you already control.

Storage warning
Read official help before any storage-reset action.
What this tells youYou understand the storage action before taking it.
Deleting or resetting storage is not an undelete method. Preserve any readable copy while reviewing official help.
Archive and deletion leave different questions.
A conversation missing from the main inbox may be archived; a permanently deleted item requires a different assessment.
Found in the archive
An existing conversation was outside the main inbox.
No known copy
An archive search does not establish that deleted content can be restored.
Where an existing copy may lead.
The conversation is archived
Review the existing conversation in your own account. Its absence from the inbox was not deletion.
